Senior Landscape Designer



DESCRIPTION: Under some direction, leads project teams of Designers and assists other Senior Designers and Managers to oversee teams on the planning, design, creation, regeneration and development of land areas such as landscape and lighting plans, specialty gardens, park and recreational facilities, streetscapes and urban design projects and planning and layout of residential, industrial and commercial sites. Should combine artistic skills and technical design capabilities with knowledge of human activity and the natural and man-made environments to lead, supervise and coordinate design teams to meet project and client goals in accordance with the SCE Process Flow Diagram. Must have the ability to organize assigned work and develop effective work methods.

REPORTS TO: Landscape Architect or Department Manager


  • Interacts with various design disciplines relating to project specifics.

  • Meets with clients to discuss projects.

  • Knowledgeable in plant material and ability to select appropriate plant material.

  • Reviews planting and grading plans prepared by Landscape Designer, finalize as needed.

  • Reviews prepared construction details, finalize as needed.

  • Prepares and reviews park and recreation / athletic facility designs to meet all recognized design standards.

  • Prepares Park and Recreation Needs Assessments, Master Plans and Improvement Plans.

  • Reviews work relating to report preparation, quantity takeoffs, preliminary construction cost estimates, etc. completed by Landscape Designer, finalize as needed.

  • Performs construction inspection duties when necessary.

  • Prepares related inspection reports from construction inspections.

  • Ability to prepare/review written specifications.

  • Ability to prepare/review construction documents for project bidding.

  • Prepares and oversees completion of graphic presentations with various media and programs.

  • Ability to create and oversee completion of colored renderings with various media and programs.

  • Ability to manage internal project budgets and coordination with subconsultants with manager input.

  • Prepares Proposals and Statements of Qualifications and coordinate with Marketing and Client

  • Managers of promotion and marketing of SCE.

  • Prepares written reports of various kinds.

  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills with project teams, subconsultants, contractors, supervisors and clients.

  • Manages Designers and project tasks to manage and exceed client expectations.

  • Assist PM’s and Department Managers in the successful production and completion of projects to meet all requirements of the SCE Process Flow Diagram

  • Possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture.
  • 5-8 years of related experience.
  • Proficient in:
    • AutoCAD
    • Microsoft Office
  • One or more of the following is preferred:
    • Pursing licensure as a Landscape Architect as soon as possible

This is a full-time position located at our Office Headquarters in Flanders, NJ. The work hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. SCE offers excellent compensation and benefit packages including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k) plan, and paid holidays for this position.
